Fažana – Brijuni boat: fifteen minutes to Veliki Brijun, on a national park ticket

A Roman villa in Verige Bay, farm buildings from the Kupelwieser family's time in the early 1900s, a zoo that closed in 1995: Veliki Brijun packs a lot of history, and the way in is the national park's own boat from Fažana. In October 2026 it leaves Fažana eleven times a day; from 1 November, twice.

The history the park shows its visitors runs from a Roman villa in Verige Bay, through the Austrian Kupelwieser family, in whose time the island's farm buildings went up in the early twentieth century, to a zoo that operated here until 1995, when its predators were moved to Zagreb and Osijek. An exhibition on Josip Broz Tito at Brijuni is part of the same tour. Today all of it lies inside Brijuni National Park, and the scheduled boat to the main island is run by the park itself, from Fažana.

The park sets its boat timetable by the month. In April, May and October there are eleven departures from Fažana, between 09:00 and 22:00, and eleven from Veliki Brijun, between 07:15 and 23:00. From November to March only two boats leave Fažana, at 09:00 and 11:30, with four back from the island. October is therefore the last month this year with a real choice of times.

Nobody sells a plain fare for this boat. You buy a guided or self-guided visit, and your departure from Fažana is fixed on the ticket. For 10 October, for example, the park's online shop offered guided tours at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30 and 14:30, with self-guided visits also at 09:00 and 12:30.

Before you board in Fažana

  • A visit, not a fare

Board with a guided or self-guided ticket bought from the park's online shop or its Fažana office at Brionska 10.

  • Tour languages

Guided tours run in Croatian, Italian, German, Russian and English and last about three and a half hours.

  • Dogs

Dogs are allowed on a lead with a €15.00 ticket, but not on the train, inside exhibitions or in the Safari Park.

  • Your own bike

Bringing your own bicycle to Veliki Brijun costs €80.00; a child's bike or a scooter €40.00.

  • From 1 November

Only two boats leave Fažana, at 09:00 and 11:30; from the island they leave at 07:15, 11:00, 13:00 and 16:00.

The guided tour lasts about three and a half hours. It includes a tourist-train ride north to the Safari Park, home to around 80 herbivores, a panoramic loop along the island's west side and a walk round the exhibitions; the park counts some 400 plant species across the archipelago.

Croatia has a similar arrangement at Dubrovnik, where the reserve-run boat to Lokrum is run by the reserve and included in its entry ticket. Mljet, another national park, works the other way round: you arrive on a scheduled public service, such as the catamaran from Dubrovnik to Sobra, and pay the park separately.
