Zadar – Silba – Olib – Premuda ferry (line 401): Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays as far as Mali Lošinj

One ferry, five island harbours and a long day at sea. Out of season Jadrolinija's line 401 leaves Zadar's Gaženica ferry port at 09:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, calls at Ist, Olib, Silba and Premuda, reaches Mali Lošinj at 14:55 and sails back the same afternoon.

Ist, Olib, Silba and Premuda line up north-west of Zadar, and car ferry line 401 strings them together on a single voyage that ends in Mali Lošinj. In the off-season timetable Jadrolinija's ferry leaves Gaženica at 09:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, reaches Silba at 12:35 and Mali Lošinj at 14:55, then turns round at 16:15 and is back in Zadar at 22:10.

Those days and times stay fixed until New Year's Eve 2026. The other four days of the week, and public holidays, have no sailing. Between 3 July and 27 September the line sailed every day, but that part of the timetable has now ended.

Jadrolinija runs the route as one of the state lines AOLPP puts out to contract. Drivers should buy ahead: on line 401 it doubles as a reservation for that particular sailing. The 2027 timetable has not yet been published.

€4.40 to Silba, €7.70 to Mali Lošinj

The further you sail, the more you pay. From Zadar an adult pays €4.40 to Olib, Silba or Premuda, €4.20 to Ist and €7.70 all the way to Mali Lošinj. Island-to-island tickets are lower, €2.10 for Olib to Silba or Silba to Premuda, and bicycles are charged as passengers.

Vehicle fares exclude the people inside. An ordinary car below 5 m pays €21.60 from Zadar to Ist, Olib or Premuda and €30.40 to Mali Lošinj, plus a ticket for the driver and each passenger. Taking a car only makes sense if you are going beyond Silba: cars may not be loaded or unloaded there at all.

Boarding in Zadar, landing on Lošinj

Zadar – Gaženica ferry port

Gaženička cesta 28c, 23000 Zadar · City of Zadar · Zadar Port Authority

This ferry uses Gaženica, Zadar's ferry port outside the city centre, not the quays of the old town peninsula where several of the fast passenger boats tie up. Jadrolinija's ticket office is at Gaženička cesta 28c. A ticket bought for line 401 also reserves your place on that sailing, and the operator asks passengers to be at the quay at least 45 minutes before departure.

Mali Lošinj, Riva lošinjskih kapetana

Riva lošinjskih kapetana 20, 51550 Mali Lošinj · Town of Mali Lošinj · Primorje-Gorski Kotar County

At the Lošinj end the ferry berths in the town harbour. Jadrolinija's office at Riva lošinjskih kapetana 20 opens from 05:15 to 16:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the same days the ferry runs, so tickets for the 16:15 return can still be bought at the desk.

North-west through the Zadar islands into Kvarner

From Gaženica the ferry heads first for Ist, docking at Kosirača bay, then Olib, Silba and Premuda, where it uses the Krijal landing. The final leg from Premuda to Mali Lošinj crosses from Zadar County into Primorje-Gorski Kotar. Jadrolinija's own description of the journey time does not match its timetable; the times quoted here are the timetable's own, 09:00 from Gaženica and 14:55 into Mali Lošinj.

Planning a trip on line 401

  • Build your stay around three days

Between now and New Year the boat goes out three times a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Land on Silba on a Friday and your next car-ferry departure home is on Monday.

  • Leave the car if Silba is the goal

The price list forbids cars to embark or disembark on Silba. Olib, Ist, Premuda and Mali Lošinj do take vehicles.

  • A ticket is a reservation

Buying a ticket for line 401 books you onto that particular departure. Jadrolinija asks you to turn up 45 minutes before the ferry leaves.

  • Bags and bikes

Carry-on bags under 20 kg cost nothing; beyond that you pay per 10 kg. Bikes are charged the passenger fare for the same journey.

  • Holiday gaps

No ferry on Wednesday 18 November or Friday 25 December, which are public holidays in Croatia.

The daily fast boat and a summer-only shortcut

Foot passengers bound for Olib, Silba or Premuda have a daily alternative in TP Line's fast boat, line 9401. Departures from Zadar are at 14:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 11:00 on Wednesdays, 17:00 on Fridays, and 08:45 and 18:30 on Sundays. Heading for Zadar it starts from Olib at 05:30 or 07:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, but at 16:00 on Sundays. Off-season it costs €5.70 from Zadar to Olib, Silba or Premuda. During the summer a Jadrolinija fast boat, line 322, also linked Zadar with Silba and Mali Lošinj, though only between 25 July and 29 August 2026.

Gaženica is also where you catch the car ferry to Rava and Bršanj on Iž, and in summer Ist gets a second ferry, line 433 via Molat. In Mali Lošinj the same harbour serves the boat to Susak, Unije and Srakane, while drivers heading north through Cres towards Istria finish on the Porozina to Brestova ferry.

In summer 2026 Gaženica was also where Jadrolinija's catamaran Jelena set off for Ancona, until 6 September. In winter Jadrolinija's only Ancona service leaves from Split: the overnight line 53 ferry to Ancona, itself cancelled until 2 November.
