Zadar – Molat car ferry (line 433): three sailing days a week through the winter timetable

Book the days before you book the island. Out of season the Jadrolinija car ferry from Zadar's Gaženica port to Molat sails only on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, once each way, stopping at Rivanj, Sestrunj and Zverinac and taking about three hours, according to the operator.

Book the days before you book the island. Out of season, state ferry line 433 from Zadar's Gaženica port to Molat sails only on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, once in each direction. On Saturdays it leaves Zadar at 11:00, reaches Molat at 14:00 and heads back at 15:00. On Mondays and Thursdays the departure time changes twice before the end of the year.

So check the date. Until 7 October a temporary Jadrolinija timetable applies, with the ferry leaving Zadar at 10:00 and Molat at 18:15. From 8 to 29 October the Monday and Thursday sailing leaves Zadar at 12:00, and from 2 November to the end of the year at 11:00; in both periods it leaves Molat at 16:30 and is back at Gaženica at 19:30.

The ferry is Jadrolinija's, with the route paid for by the state through AOLPP. In summer it continues from Molat to the island of Ist, but the winter timetable, valid to 31 December 2026, ends at Molat. No 2027 timetables had appeared by 2 October.

Checked 2 October 2026.   AOLPP – T-433 Zadar/Gaženica – Rivanj – Sestrunj – Zverinac – Molat – Ist, 2026 timetable and fares · 2026-10-02

The car pays €20.20, its driver pays separately

Foot-passenger fares depend on how far you go: in the off-season Zadar to Rivanj is €2.90, Sestrunj €3.20, Zverinac €3.50 and Molat €3.90. The summer fare to Molat was €6.10.

Vehicles pay one flat rate from Zadar to any of the islands. A standard car (under 5 m, under 2 m tall) is €20.20 out of season, and that buys space for the car alone: everyone inside it, driver included, needs a passenger ticket too. Island to island, the same car costs €13.70. A bicycle costs what a foot passenger pays.

Foot passengers, Zadar – Molat
Adult, off-season€ 3.90
Adult, summer season (29 May – 27 Sep)€ 6.10

Off-season prices apply until 31 December 2026 (from 28 September); resident and public-service prices are the same all year.   AOLPP / Jadrolinija – line 433 fares, 2026 · 2026-10-02

Gaženica ferry port and the landing on Molat

Zadar – Gaženica ferry port

Gaženička cesta 28c, 23000 Zadar · City of Zadar · Zadar Port Authority

Line 433 leaves from Gaženica, Zadar's car-ferry port south-east of the city centre, not from the old-town waterfront. If you are driving a hire car, follow the signs for the ferry port rather than for the centre. Jadrolinija's ticket office is in the port building at Gaženička cesta 28c, open 04:30 to 23:00 Monday to Saturday and 06:00 to 23:00 on Sundays and public holidays. The operator does not publish which berth this line uses, so check the departure screens or ask port staff.

Molat ferry landing

Molat, island of Molat · City of Zadar

Until the end of 2026 Molat is the end of the line. The ferry arrives at 13:00, 14:00 or 15:00 depending on the date and waits there until its afternoon departure back to Zadar. In summer it carries on to the island of Ist, but that extension is not in the winter timetable. Jadrolinija's agency on Molat opens half an hour before each sailing. Note that the island has three harbours: the catamaran on line 9403 calls at Molat, Brgulje and Zapuntel, whereas the car ferry uses only Molat.

Island-hopping north-west from Zadar to Molat

Leaving Gaženica the ferry heads north-west; Rivanj comes first, then Sestrunj and Zverinac, and Molat is the last stop, with the same islands in reverse on the way back. Jadrolinija describes the whole run as taking about three hours, which matches the timetable (11:00 from Zadar, 14:00 at Molat).

Before you drive aboard at Gaženica

  • Gaženica, not the old town

The car ferry goes from Gaženica ferry port. The only Molat service from the old-town waterfront is the 9403 catamaran, which takes no vehicles.

  • Allow 45 minutes

For this route Jadrolinija wants you at Gaženica three quarters of an hour ahead. Buying in advance holds a space for you on the sailing you picked.

  • Hire cars are fine, but pay twice

Car and occupants are ticketed separately: a couple in a small hire car needs three tickets out of season, €20.20 for the car plus two €3.90 fares.

  • Short stays

With no ferry on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays or Sundays, a short trip may mean taking the ferry one way and the daily 9403 catamaran the other, but only if you are not bringing a car.

  • Holidays

The line does not run on public holidays; between now and New Year that only affects Saturday 26 December.

Without a car, Molat is quicker and easier to reach by catamaran. Jadrolinija's fast line 9403 leaves from the city harbour in Zadar, not Gaženica, and runs every day. Departures from Zadar are at 13:05 on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 17:00 on Fridays, 14:05 on Saturdays, and 08:00 and 19:30 on Sundays; from Molat harbour it leaves for Zadar at 06:50 Monday to Saturday and at 18:20 on Sundays. The off-season fare is €5.00, more than the ferry.

Rivanj, Sestrunj and Zverinac are also stops for Jadrolinija's catamaran from Zadar to Božava, which leaves from the old-town quay and continues to Dugi otok. Gaženica is the departure point for the Bršanj and Rava car ferry too, and the same Jadrolinija office sells tickets for both.
