Ancona – Split ferry (Jadrolinija line 53): overnight crossings resume on 3 November

Planning to cross from Ancona to Split this autumn? Check the dates first. Jadrolinija has cancelled every sailing on line 53 until 2 November 2026 because of a technical problem with its ferry Dalmacija, and SNAV's summer service ended on 4 October. The published winter timetable starts again on 3 November.

Planning to cross from Ancona to Split this autumn? Check the dates first. In summer two companies sail the route, Jadrolinija and the Italian operator SNAV, but for now neither is running. SNAV ended its 2026 season on 4 October, and on 8 October Jadrolinija announced that a technical problem with its ferry Dalmacija had forced it to cancel all international sailings, with line 53 between Split and Ancona suspended until 2 November.

A timetable for the weeks after that is already published. From 3 to 6 November the ferry leaves Split at 20:00 and Ancona at 19:45, three times a week in each direction. From 8 November 2026 to 5 January 2027 it sails twice a week each way, from Split on Sundays and Wednesdays and from Ancona on Tuesdays and Fridays, always arriving at 07:00 the next morning.

This is a commercial line, outside Croatia's state-funded domestic network. Tickets are sold on jadrolinija.hr, in the mJadrolinija app and at Jadrolinija offices, and the boarding pass is collected at check-in two hours before departure. Because the restart depends on repairs to the ship, look at Jadrolinija's notice for international passengers shortly before you travel.

Why there is no fare table here

There is no printed price list for line 53, so this page gives no fares. What you pay depends on the date, the type of seat or cabin and any vehicle, and the figure only appears in the ticket search on jadrolinija.hr, in the mJadrolinija app or at a Jadrolinija office.

The rules around the ticket are published. Buying online gets you a payment confirmation by email, not a ticket: the boarding pass is issued at check-in at the departure port. A booking can be changed until the day before sailing, but if the new fare is lower the difference is not refunded. Cancellation fees rise as the sailing date gets closer.

For the sailings cancelled until 2 November, Jadrolinija says every passenger holding a ticket will be compensated. If you booked through an agent, changes and cancellations go through that agent rather than Jadrolinija.

Jadrolinija does not publish a fare table for its international lines; prices are generated by its booking system for each date.   Jadrolinija – frequently asked questions, international lines · 2026-10-09

An overnight crossing of the open Adriatic

The ferry sails in the evening and crosses the open Adriatic overnight: from Split at 20:00, into Ancona at 07:00; from Ancona at 19:45, into Split at 07:00. Jadrolinija does not state a crossing time in hours, but the timetable is built so that you disembark in the morning with the day ahead of you, whether in Dalmatia or in Italy's Marche region.

Before you board the Dalmacija

  • Documents at check-in

Bring your passport or ID card and the vehicle registration document. For a hire car Jadrolinija asks for the original rental agreement.

  • Allow two hours

Check-in at the departure-port office opens two hours before sailing, and that is where your email confirmation is exchanged for a boarding pass.

  • No access to the car deck

You cannot go back to your car during the night. Take everything you need for the crossing out of the vehicle before departure.

  • Travelling with a dog

Pets may stay on the open deck and in passenger areas without carpet. The Dalmacija has six dog kennels, which must be reserved in advance.

  • Unaccompanied minors

On Jadrolinija's international lines a child may travel alone only from the age of 13.

SNAV, Zadar and Jadrolinija's other Italian routes

SNAV's Ancona – Split ferry is seasonal. The Italian company is already selling 2027, with a season from 12 April to 5 October. It has no ship to Zadar: for Zadar it suggests the same Split crossing followed by 155 km by road.

Jadrolinija's newest Italian link, a fast catamaran between Zadar and Ancona called the Jelena, sailed from 26 June to 6 September 2026 and took about four hours. It has stopped for the year and its 2027 return is unannounced. Besides Ancona, Jadrolinija sails from Split and from Dubrovnik to Bari; both routes are cancelled until 21 October.

Split's ferry port is also where domestic ferries leave, among them the car ferry to Rogač on Šolta, while the fast boat to Milna and Rogač uses the city waterfront.
