Two scheduled boats reach Sobra on Mljet this winter, and they could hardly be more different. Line 832 is a vehicle ferry that leaves the Pelješac shore at Prapratno and sails four times each way every day. Line 9807 is a passenger catamaran from Dubrovnik, via Šipan, with a single sailing a day and no vehicles.
For a foot passenger the ferry is the cheaper crossing, at €3.90 off-season. But Prapratno is reached by road, so the ferry makes most sense if you are driving, staying on Pelješac or coming from the Ston direction. An ordinary car costs €19.60, plus the driver's ticket.
The timetable is identical from Monday to Sunday: Sobra departures at 06:00, 10:00, 15:00 or 19:00, Prapratno departures at 07:00, 12:00, 17:00 or 20:30. Summer brought up to six sailings a day; the autumn timetable keeps four, and no further change is due before January.
Four sailings each way, the same on Sundays

Prapratno bay on the peninsula, Sobra on the island
Prapratno ferry landing, Pelješac
Prapratno is a bay on the south coast of the Pelješac peninsula, in Ston municipality, and its landing is used only by the Mljet ferry among the state lines. You reach it by road: no boat from Dubrovnik calls here. The first ferry leaves at 07:00 and the last at 20:30.
Sobra harbour, Mljet
Sobra, on Mljet's north coast, is also where TP Line's catamaran from Dubrovnik ties up, but that is a separate line with separate tickets. Ferries leave Sobra at 06:00, 10:00, 15:00 and 19:00. The timetable warns that in bad weather the ferry may leave Sobra about an hour late.
A short hop across the Mljet Channel
From Prapratno the ferry heads south-west across the Mljet Channel to Sobra on the island's north coast. The timetable gives the crossing as 40 minutes; the Jadrolinija website puts it at 45. There is no published distance.
Driving onto Mljet in the quiet months
- Missed the boat?
On line 832 a ticket stays valid for the whole day, Jadrolinija says, so just take the next ferry.
- Cars only this way
The catamaran from Dubrovnik carries no vehicles. A hire car crosses to Mljet on this ferry.
- Getting to Prapratno
The landing is on Pelješac and reached by road; Ston is the nearest town. There is no boat from Dubrovnik to Prapratno.
- Weather delays
In bad weather the ferry may leave Sobra about 60 minutes behind schedule, according to the timetable.
- Christmas and New Year
No 06:00 from Sobra and no 07:00 from Prapratno on 25 and 26 December or on 1 January.
Without a car and starting in Dubrovnik itself, the Dubrovnik – Šipan – Sobra catamaran (line 9807) is the easier choice. It docks in the same harbour but has one sailing a day and, in winter, goes no further than Sobra. The two services share a destination and nothing else: separate operators, tariffs and tickets.
Entry to the national park on Mljet is paid to the park, not to the ferry company. From Sobra the park and the rest of the island are reached by road, which is where a car brought over on this ferry pays off in winter, when the catamaran no longer calls at Polače.
Prapratno to Sobra: questions from drivers and foot passengers
When does the Mljet ferry leave Prapratno?
Every day at 07:00, 12:00, 17:00 and 20:30 until 31 December 2026, except that the 07:00 does not run on 25 and 26 December or 1 January.
How long is the crossing?
The timetable says 40 minutes and Jadrolinija's line page says 45.
What happens if I miss my ferry?
Jadrolinija says tickets on this line are valid all day for other sailings of the same line, so take the next one.
How much is it with a car?
