Biševo became famous after 1884, when Baron Eugen von Ransonet found the Blue Cave on its eastern shore; the Komiža tourist board says the cave has been open to the public ever since and now draws around 50,000 visitors a year. For anyone who simply needs to reach the island, there is a public service: state passenger line 612 from Komiža, which keeps running after the summer, though only on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
On each of those days the boat leaves Komiža at 08:00, calls at Mezuporat and Salbunara and reaches Porat at 09:15. On Tuesdays it starts back from Porat at 13:00, and on Sundays at 16:00 in October and 14:30 from November. Fridays have a second departure from Komiža, at 15:30 until the end of October and 14:30 from November.
Nautički centar Komiža operates the boat, with the state paying for the route through AOLPP. The Komiža company publishes no timetable, so AOLPP's 2026 document is the only official source for times and fares; an unofficial timetable website showed the same sailings and fare for Friday 2 October. Ask at the harbour the day before to be sure.

One fare, €3.19, to any harbour on the island
Line 612 has one fare for every journey on it, whether you get off at Mezuporat, Salbunara or Porat, or ride between two harbours on Biševo. An adult pays €3.19 until the end of December; the summer price was €4.38.
Children between three and twelve pay €1.99. A bicycle is charged like a passenger and pets ride without charge; bags you carry, up to 20 kg, cost nothing, while heavier luggage is €0.66 per 10 kg. The €3.19 already includes taxes and harbour charges, and it is the same price back to Komiža.

Komiža harbour and three landings on Biševo
Komiža harbour (Vis)
The Biševo boat leaves from the harbour at Komiža, on the west side of Vis. OpenStreetMap marks the landing on Obala pape Aleksandra III.; the operator publishes no boarding point of its own and AOLPP's timetable simply says "Komiža". With an 08:00 departure, it is worth asking at the harbour the day before.
Porat (Biševo)
Porat is the last stop on every sailing out of Komiža. The morning boat gets there at 09:15, the Friday afternoon boat at 16:45 in October and 15:45 from November, after calling at Mezuporat and Salbunara. On Tuesdays and Sundays it returns the same way round the island; on Fridays both return trips run straight from Porat to Komiža.
Mezuporat, Salbunara, then Porat
Out of Komiža the boat calls first at Mezuporat, then Salbunara, and ends at Porat. On Tuesdays and Sundays it comes back the same way in reverse; on Fridays it runs straight from Porat to Komiža. According to the Komiža tourist board the Blue Cave lies on Biševo's eastern side, in Balun cove, 4.5 nautical miles from Komiža, and Mezuporat is the line's stop on that side of the island. Entry to the cave is not part of this service: visitors go in by small boat.
Planning a day on Biševo by public boat
- Three days a week
Off-season the boat runs on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays only. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays have no public sailing at all.
- Day trip windows
On Tuesdays you have from 09:15 to 13:00 on the island; on October Sundays until 16:00. On Fridays the morning boat heads back at 09:30, so a Friday visit really means the afternoon boat and a night on Biševo.
- Weather
If bad weather stops a sailing, AOLPP's timetable says the trip runs on the first following day the weather allows, outside the usual schedule.
- Bikes and bags
Bicycles are charged the passenger fare (€3.19 off-season); a bag you carry yourself, up to 20 kg, travels free.
- Check locally
Nautički centar Komiža keeps no website, so confirm the time at Komiža harbour the day before you travel.
Christmas week has its own arrangements. On Christmas Eve, Thursday 24 December, the boat makes two round trips, leaving Komiža at 08:00 and 14:30 and Porat at 09:30 and 16:00. There is no service on Christmas Day. On New Year's Eve, Thursday 31 December, it leaves Komiža at 09:00, reaches Porat at 10:15 and heads back at 14:00 via Salbunara and Mezuporat, arriving in Komiža at 15:15.
Biševo belongs to Komiža, and no other state line serves it. Getting to Vis itself from Split is a separate journey on other lines that are not covered here; from Komiža to Biševo, this boat is the only scheduled option.
