Rab – Lun boat: the Maslina between Rab and Pag, three days a week in winter

This is a crossing with a long memory. Since 1974, when the boat that linked Lun with Rijeka via Rab was withdrawn, a small Rapska plovidba passenger boat has shuttled between Rab town and Tovarnele, the little harbour below Lun on Pag. Today it is the Maslina, and since 1 October its week has shrunk to three sailing days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 07:30 from Lun, 12:00 from Rab.

The line goes back to 1974. That year the boat that had linked Lun with Rijeka by way of Rab was taken off, and a local service was set up with a vessel called Igor. Rapska plovidba bought and refitted the Maslina, the boat on the route today, in 2014, and on 1 July 2017 the line became an inter-county service. The operator's management told this story to the newspaper Novi list in 2023 and 2024.

Since 1 October the off-season part of the 2026 timetable has applied, and it is sparse. The Maslina sails on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, once each way: the day starts at Lun with a 07:30 departure from Tovarnele, and the boat heads back from Rab at 12:00. Tuesdays, Thursdays, weekends and Christmas Day have no boat. The same pattern ran from 1 January to 31 May.

Summer looked very different: in June and September there was a boat every day, and in July and August three a day from Tuesday to Friday. Rapska plovidba has not yet put up next year's poster, so what you see here is valid to 31 December 2026. Times and fares are published only by the operator, on a poster on its website, which also warns that the timetable may change without notice.

€7.50 each way, the same for your bike

You pay on board. In winter an adult single costs €7.50 and a return €13.00, and a bicycle is charged exactly like a passenger. Children from three to twelve pay €5.00 a single on the Maslina, winter or summer.

Summer was dearer: from June to September a single was €10.50 and a return €21.00. These prices appear only on the operator's own timetable poster.

Rab town harbour and Tovarnele below Lun

There are no stops in between: the boat goes straight from one harbour to the other. On Rab it is the harbour in town, not the Mišnjak ferry port; on Pag it is Tovarnele, the small harbour at Lun, not Novalja, which is served from Rab by the catamaran on state line 9309 between Novalja, Rab and Rijeka.

Rab, town harbour

Obala kralja Petra Krešimira, Rab · Town of Rab

The Maslina uses the harbour of Rab town itself; the operator just says "port of Rab" and names no berth. In winter it leaves here at 12:00 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Do not confuse it with Mišnjak, the ferry port where Rapska plovidba's car ferries from Stinica on the mainland come in.

Lun, Tovarnele harbour

Tovarnele, Lun, island of Pag · Town of Novalja

On Pag the boat ties up at Tovarnele, by the village of Lun at the northern tip of the island. The winter departure from here is at 07:30, and the 12:00 from Rab brings the boat back. The operator puts Novalja 20 km away by road.

Four and a half miles from Rab harbour to the tip of Pag

Rapska plovidba gives the distance between Rab harbour and Tovarnele as 4.5 nautical miles and the crossing time as 20 minutes. The boat runs from Rab town, on the island's south-west coast, to Tovarnele at the northern tip of Pag, where Lun sits.

Before you turn up at the quay

  • Check the day first

From now to New Year the Maslina crosses on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday, Thursday and the whole weekend have no crossing at all.

  • Pay on board

Tickets are bought on the boat. The timetable says nothing about advance or online sales, or about card payment.

  • Cyclists welcome, up to seven

A bike costs the same as a passenger, €7.50 one way, and the boat carries up to seven in each direction.

  • No cars or hire cars

The Maslina carries foot passengers and bikes only. Cars reach Rab on the Stinica – Mišnjak ferry, another line run by the same company.

  • Who to call

The timetable poster gives the skipper's mobile as the contact: 098 99 11 409.

A line shared by two counties

The line is inter-county because it crosses a county boundary: Rab belongs to Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, while Lun falls under Novalja, a town in Lika-Senj County. According to Novi list in June 2024, the costs for the next six years are split between Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the town of Novalja at 35 % each and Lika-Senj County and the town of Rab at 15 % each.

Rapska plovidba, based at Mali Palit on Rab, is mainly a car-ferry company: it has run the Stinica – Mišnjak crossing continuously since 1963. The Lun boat is a much smaller affair, one vessel with the skipper's own mobile number on the timetable and, in winter, sailings on just three days a week.

Rab – Lun in winter: on which days?

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 1 October to 31 December 2026. There is no boat on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

Can I spend a day on Rab coming from Lun?

Yes: leave Tovarnele at 07:30 and catch the 12:00 back from Rab, which gives you the morning in Rab town. The opposite does not work, because after the 12:00 from Rab the next boat out of Lun is on the following sailing day.

Rab to Tovarnele: how long on board?

20 minutes for 4.5 nautical miles, according to Rapska plovidba.

Can I bring a bicycle?

Yes, with a bike ticket at the passenger price. The limit is seven bicycles in each direction.

Does the boat go to Novalja?

No. On Pag it only calls at Tovarnele, by Lun. The operator puts Novalja 20 km away.

Does the Maslina sail over Christmas?

No. The operator does not sail on 25 December, 1 January or Easter Sunday. This year Christmas Day falls on a Friday, normally a sailing day.
